Judges Training

 

Training is made available each year for judges at the affiliate, regional and national levels of the American Iris Society (AIS).  These sessions are informative and provide an opportunity for judges and other people interested in iris to learn more about them and how to evaluate them based on the guidelines of the AIS Handbook for Judges and Show Officials which is currently in its seventh edition.  All judges and interested individuals are encouraged to attend these sessions. 

 

The chairperson for Judges Training in Region 2 is Wendy Roller.  She maintains records of the hours of training each judge and prospective judge has completed each year.  This information is reported to the AIS annually as part of the judge certification process.

 

If you are interested in becoming an AIS Judge, the guidelines are in the AIS Handbook for Judges and Show Officials. 

 

The following Judges Training Sessions have been scheduled in Region 2 of the AIS for the 2011 calendar year.  Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

FALL 2011 JUDGES TRAINING COURSES IN REGION 2

 

1.  Japanese Irises – Saturday, September 24, 2011 – 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

 

The American Iris Society Region 2 Annual Meeting is planned for Saturday, September 24, 2011, at the Riverside Inn, 930 South First Street,Fulton, NY 13069.  Dennis Hager, President of the Japanese Iris Society and Owner of Academy House Garden, will conduct a judges training session on Japanese Iris.

 

2.  Reblooming Irises – Saturday, October 2, 2011 – 1 ½ Hour Course

 

A Fall Iris Show will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2011, at Chapman Iris Gardens, RR #1, 8790 Wellington Road 124, Guelph, Ontario, N1H 6H7 Canada. After the iris show, an in-garden judges training session on Reblooming Iris will be presented by Master Judge Chuck Chapman. For additional information about the session and to register for the course, please contact Chuck by telephone at (519) 856-4424 or by e-mail at irischapman@aim.com.
