Judges Training

Training is made available each year for judges at the affiliate, regional and national levels of the American Iris Society (AIS).  These sessions are informative and provide an opportunity for judges and other people interested in iris to learn more about them and how to evaluate them based on the guidelines of the AIS Handbook for Judges and Show Officials which is currently in its seventh edition.  All judges and interested individuals are encouraged to attend these sessions.

The chairperson for Judges Training in Region 2 is Wendy Roller.  She maintains records of the hours of training each judge and prospective judge has completed each year.  This information is reported to the AIS annually as part of the judge certification process.

If you are interested in becoming an AIS Judge, the guidelines are in the AIS Handbook for Judges and Show Officials.  The requirements for becoming an apprentice judge are also outlined on the Region 16 -- Canada -- website thanks to Kate Brewitt, the current RVP for Region 16.

The following Judges Training Sessions have been scheduled in Region 2 (New York State) of the AIS for the 2010 calendar year.  Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
